I just got a DVD from Community Records of their 2011 Block Party. It’s a documentary of a one-day festival in New Orleans that features performances by bands I know and love (Sun Hotel, Caddywhompus), bands I had sort of forgotten about but still love (A Billion Ernies!), and bands I had never even heard of before.
But the general theme was an incredible showcase of music makers and music lovers doing what they love. It’s a great thing to see and it’s a great label to support. For way more get your hands on the Comm Rec Compilation Vol. 3. It’s 27 tracks!

Sometimes the internet makes things seem too easy. Music can become a completely digital experience and the talented people that make it become faceless, represented by some weirdo image that serves as album art. It’s refreshing that there are real people out there who are genuinely excited to share their work and the work of their friends. Community Records and the people involved make it feel like things are still good, and like they’re going to be forever.

Thank you so much for the kind words!
